The group is independent, convened by Wiser Marine Technologies Ltd. in Victoria, British Columbia; members hold appointments at their respective institutions.
Dr. Eduard Wisernig
Founder & Principal Investigator
Eduard Wisernig holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Victoria (2020); his dissertation developed augmented-reality marine visualization, validated at sea and published at IEEE venues. He founded Wiser Marine Technologies Ltd. (marine navigation products; UK patent GB2623650A), and leads the group and its instrumented sailing testbed.
Dr. Brian Wyvill
Implicit Modelling & Computer Graphics
Brian Wyvill is one of the founders of implicit modelling in computer graphics — co-creator of “soft objects” (1986) and the BlobTree. His career spans computer-animation work for Alien (1979), twenty-five years as a professor at the University of Calgary, a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair at the University of Victoria, and service as ACM SIGGRAPH Vice-President (2013–2020). He is Professor Emeritus at UVic.
Dr. Bruce Kapron
Cryptographic Logic & Distributed Fault Tolerance
Bruce Kapron is a professor of computer science at the University of Victoria working in logic, complexity, and cryptography. His results include the SODA 2013 best-paper algorithm for dynamic graph connectivity and the first polylogarithmic-round protocols for asynchronous Byzantine agreement (SODA 2008). He anchors the group’s integrity and audit theme.
Dr. Morgan McGuire
Real-Time Rendering & Predictive Simulation
Morgan McGuire is a co-author of Computer Graphics: Principles and Practice, creator of the G3D Innovation Engine, former Director of Research at NVIDIA and Chief Scientist at Roblox, with professorships at Williams College and honorary positions at Waterloo and McGill. He works on the group’s real-time predictive rendering.
Dr. Eric Hochstein
Philosophy of Cognitive Science
Eric Hochstein is a philosopher of cognitive science at the University of Victoria. His work argues that complex phenomena are often best explained by multiple partial, sometimes inconsistent models — the group’s philosophical grounding for treating disagreement between sensors as information rather than noise.
